Public Lecture: Huw Price - Philosophy, AI, and our Responsibility to the Future

Thanks to a chance meeting in a taxi in Copenhagen in 2011, Cambridge now has two new Centres dedicated to ensuring that we humans avoid the pitfalls of our own technological success, and make the best of the opportunities of the twenty-first century (especially in Artificial Intelligence). Huw Price is Co-Founder of the Centre for the Study of Existential Risk (CSER), and Academic Director of the Leverhulme Centre for the Future of Intelligence (CFI). In this lecture he presents an insider's view of the history and vision of these Centres.

Huw Price is Bertrand Russell Professor of Philosophy and a Fellow of Trinity College at the University of Cambridge. He is Academic Director of the Leverhulme Centre for the Future of Intelligence, and was founding Academic Director of the Centre for the Study of Existential Risk, which he established in 2012 with Martin Rees and Jaan Tallinn. Before moving to Cambridge he was ARC Federation Fellow and Challis Professor of Philosophy at the University of Sydney, where from 2002—2012 he was founding Director of the Centre for Time. Before that, he was a postdoctoral fellow at the ANU, and an undergraduate student here.
